How To Use YouTube For Affiliate Marketing

by Sean Rasmussen on June 18, 2010

How can you use YouTube to your advantage with affiliate marketing? This is a free and powerful tool and unleashing its potential could definitely help you succeed with our online business.

How To Use YouTube For Affiliate MarketingYouTube is one of the most popular websites online, millions of people use it daily. They use it from their desktops and with smart phone technology, more than ever are using it on the go. In fact, new home entertainment systems come with YouTube so you can even market to people via video marketing while they’re on their sofa!

Let’s look at some ways you can use YouTube for affiliate marketing

Tips On Using YouTube For Affiliate Marketing

• Create videos to direct people to your website. Your website URL on the video or commentary by you telling people where to learn more, get free info, get a free e-book,etc. will help you. Do commercials, presentations, tutorials, etc. Videos can also go viral so creativity could definitely help!

• Embed videos on your website. Video blogging, or vlogging, can help you attract an audience, especially if you have charisma. Not only will the video help your blog’s SEO but it also helps you appeal to people that prefer visuals rather than reading articles.

• Video testimonials. If people post video testimonials on your site or landing page, this is a good thing. The testimonials can also be posted on YouTube so that people could find them there and link through to your site.

• Link videos to your PPC (pay per click) campaign. Instead of sending ad clickers to a long sales page, a video sales letter could have more punch.

• Create videos for your mailing list and / or membership program. Webinars can be recorded and posted as well so that if you’re marketing via video, you can share it repeatedly.

Using YouTube for affiliate marketing can definitely help to get more traffic and increase sales, don’t forget to use social tools to market your videos as well. Embed them in your Web 2.0 pages, social bookmark them and spread the word via social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook.

Yes, Youtube all the way. I’ve just started experimenting with developing Youtube videos myself. They add a great dimension my content. As Youtube doesn’t (currently) have the functionality to let users click a url mentioned in a video, your branding is very important. Either keep your website address up for a long time at the end, or have it prominently displayed through the entire video. Embrace Youtube for your affiliate marketing and you’ll definitely get an edge.

Hi Sean

Here is another topic that I feel passionate about and that is making videos for Youtube and for my blog as I build it.

The possibilities for using videos is enormous and I have already got some good ideas from your post.

I also like that you can actually build a series of training videos that can be uploaded to Youtube or to your blog… well anything really. There are tons of ‘how to’ videos on you tube. I play an uncommon instrument and now I can continue my training because I found a series of lessons on the internet that go from beginner to advanced. Now that is magic!

I am actually gathering ideas for making videos now so a timely article thankyou.

Blessings
Elly

Hi Sean,

YouTube is a great medium to use for affiliate marketing. It’s just hugely popular, especially if the clip is funny or shocking in some way. Your clip can go viral easily if people love it.

The possibilities are endless. I also agree with David. I’m surprised that YouTube doesn’t allow for hyperlinks.

I have seen many sales pages starting to use video instead of those massively long sales pages. Not only do I feel that this is more engaging as it keeps visitors on the site for longer, it provides a more interesting experience for people watching a video then reading a whole lot of text.

The best sales pages I have seen have been a good mixture of both.

Youtube is definitely a great spot to be on and to use for you Affiliate Marketing. At the moment I am still very much “camera shy” so I am postponing this to the end of my learning curve (ok, maybe only to the middle).

I guess I have to find a way of creating an interesting video without being in it too much myself ;)

You can always do screen captures with software like Jing and Camtasia Renee (powerpoint presentations for example). No need to show your pretty face if you don’t have the confidence as yet :-)

Thanks Sean – I’ve been looking for something like Jing to get started on basic screen capturing. Hopefully soon I’ll start using the webcam as well :)

Renee July 12, 2010 at 10:17 pm

That will be my way to go :)

Now I just have to find the right idea to create my first video about. Not too long, as I only have Jing and it gives you only a very limited time …

You will be surprised at how long 5 minutes (Jing free version) actually is when you start making your video Renee :-)

You Tube for affiliate marketing is definately the way to go. I know myself I get a little lazy sometimes and would much prefer somebody “telling” me about something instead of reading through long winded sales pages. As Jazz said above, if you make it funny or use shock tactics you will get more people passing it on.

Videos definitely work if they’re well done. And the results can be amazing. Look at United Breaks Guitars ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YGc4zOqozo ) The official video has been viewed almost 9 million times. Canadian singer-songwriter Dave Carroll turned a customer-service debacle into YouTube celebrity with his anti–United Airlines crusade. In two music videos, Carroll calls out United for manhandling his $3,500 guitar at Chicago’s O’Hare airport and not offering compensation or repair. You do a good job with your videos and you and/or your priduct likely get noticed.

You Tube is a great way to get some extra exposure for your business , website and even for reviews on products , showing people how to use software , how to fix software issues , really the list is endless. There are some who are not camera shy , some who should be and some who just add music while they go through a slideshow or tutorial. And then there are the ‘funnies’ who else besides me gets lost in You Tube just for a laugh!

Using YouTube for affiliate marketing is a tool that is undervalued. People are happy to take in a video rather than read lots of information. YouTube is a goldmine of information, you can get lost in it for hours – great entertainment.

Hi Sean,
I agree that YouTube is a great tool for promoting on-line Affiliate Marketing businesses. So much more can be done with a video as stated in this article.

It’s much better advertising than a long sales letters as Camil has also pointed out.

It appears we may have a few very good and professional style video makers among the YOTA Forum members. I’m sure that making a video to upload to YouTube for advertising purposes is something I will need to look at in the future.

With everyone (almost) preferring to watch videos, I must be nuts letting my YouTube account sit idle.

Now that we have geberously been given access to the YOTA forum for a few weeks, i am going to explore there for more ideas

Hi Sean,

Youtube is a really cool site that must have a huge amount of traffic so I can see how creating video’s could gain a great advantage to your online marketing efforts. I haven’t created a video before & wouldn’t really know where to start but will definitely try to keep an open mind when the time comes to use youtube to my advantage.

A huge amount of traffic indeed, somewhere in the vicinity of 100million unique views per month from the US alone!

This article on how to use You tube for Affiliate marketing makes complete sense and is certainly a resource or tool that can have unlimited potential.
I love that you don’t have to video yourself (I picked up a lot about different tools like Camtasia and Jing).
Off to experiment!
