I fully agree. Like with everything in life you need to educate yourself about it before you throw your self fully into it. And there is so much help out there if you want it, it’s incredible. As there are so many offers for Affiliate Marketing out there today and a lot of hype around it, this is definitely a field where you have to make sure you have a good education before you rely on it.
I tend to avoid the ones that promise “thousands of dollars in 30 days” or something like that, because if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is not true.
I know you as a person with high standards and strong ethics, and I am learning heaps from the YOTA forum. I know I have picked the right place to educate myself there.

I think it’s a great idea to get an affiliate marketing education. In the beginning I just promoted products I liked without much consideration as to the right way to go about marketing them. As you can imagine I failed spectacularly.
Now I’m putting the effort into learning to market my affiliate products effectively. You just have to choose carefully where to get your affiliate marketing education.
I agree with Renee. Just stay away from offers that sound too good to be true.

I guess it is the same with everything – if you really want to succeed you have to learn the rules of the game.
Either you learn by trial-and-error (can be very de-motivating) or you put in the effort at the beginning to get a good training/education in your new field. That will help to get you out of the starting blocks much faster and allow you to learn from the mistakes others made before you without having to make them again.
So it’s a good idea to spend some time on finding a good teacher

Thats exactly what I did Jazz. I joined affiliate programs without putting any research into it and ones that only paid 3-4 percent commissions so even if I did get someone to buy the product I would only make a couple of dollars out of all my effort.

I’m glad I’m not the only one to make this mistake. I rushed headlong into selling affiliate products without considering if there was a demand for them. Not that I knew then how to work out if there was a demand for them.
I chose products where the commission was too low. There were no tools to help me sell the product. Again, not that I would have known how to use them. Still, I’ve learned a lot and now I’m on my way.

An Affiliate Marketing education is priceless. Knowing the best place to get educated can be tricky. Blogs, books and membership sites are a good source and so is having a mentor.
